Marriage After Trauma
Marriage After Trauma
Understanding the wounds we carry, the ways they affect our relationships, and how we can begin finding connection together.
The past may shape how we experience love, but it does not have to define every part of our future. Marriage After Trauma is an eight-week written course for couples navigating the impact of past experiences on their relationship. Whether the trauma happened to one of you or both, whether it was recent or long ago, the effects can echo through trust, intimacy, communication, and connection in ways that are hard to name and harder to navigate together. This course is not about fixing a spouse. It is not about assigning blame. It is about learning to recognize how the past may be present in your marriage and finding gentle, respectful ways to move forward — together or individually. Each week includes substantive written teaching, private reflections for each partner, and optional conversation prompts you may explore together. You can complete the course entirely on your own. No shared accounts, no shared responses, no pressure to discuss anything before you are ready. This course is educational, not a substitute for trauma-informed therapy or medical care. If you or your partner are experiencing a crisis, please reach out to a qualified professional or contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
This course is based on Brooke Andersen's personal experiences, writing, and advocacy. Brooke is not a licensed mental health professional, and this course is intended for educational and personal reflection purposes only. It is not therapy, medical advice, or a substitute for professional care. Read the full disclaimer.
